Make Music with ELM
A fun-filled music program for young people aged 10-19 (up to 25 with disability) to explore music production using Logic Pro and MIDI. Participants will create original music tracks, learn recording techniques, copyright basics, and gain insight into the music industry. By the end, they will walk away with their own hit single or EP.

Expressions of History: Celebrating Black Art and Culture in Edmonton

“Expressions of Identity” is a workshop designed to celebrate the rich diversity and creativity of black artists and culture, whilst also looking back at Edmonton’s expansive history. Participants will create a painting or collage that integrates historical Edmonton or famous past events in the area, with their own culture and what Edmonton embodies in present times.

Workshop Activities:

Artist Spotlight Presentations: Begin the workshop by showcasing the work of prominent black artists from various disciplines. Discuss their impact on art and culture, highlighting their unique styles, themes, and contributions.

Edmonton Showcase: A series of famous events, historical images and inspiring people from the area will then be shared. This includes 20th century Edmonton, and cultural events such as Edmonton Carnival, or Bob Marley performing in the once Sundown Theatre.

Interactive Project: Participants will then create their own painting or collage depicting one of Edmonton’s historical events or scenes, but this will be reimagined with bright colours and influences from participants’ own heritage. Old photos of Edmonton, news articles and cultural textures will be provided as guests create a multi-media depiction of vintage Edmonton vs what Edmonton is now.

Cultural Showcase and Celebration: Conclude the workshop with a showcase and celebration, where participants can share their artwork and reflections with the community.

‘Exposure’ Workshop/Project (Ages 13-19)

Exposure:
Through a 2- week intensive, the company will stage a full-length theatrical production with a professional creative team. There will be opportunities to create a new play, build props and costumes, and collaborate with other young creatives in the Hackney area. It provides a unique experience as a stepping stone for young people to showcase their talents, and will culminate in a public showing of the production.
Project Details
Dates:
 Monday August 5th – Saturday 17th August
Times:
10:30am-5:00pm
To take part, you must:
  • Be aged 13-19
  • Have an interest in theatre, performing, or behind-the-scenes work
  • Be fully available to participate in the 2 week program and performance dates
The project will explore:
  • The Greek tragedy of Echo and Narcissus, adapted for a contemporary audience
  • A play set in an art-gallery, with a moving audience
  • Immersive and interactive performance techniques in a Promenade setting
The outcomes for young people would be:
  • Work with a professional playwright, director, and designer
  • Create a world-premiere play for a live audience
  • Collaborate with other young creatives and make new friends
  • Have the opportunity to develop drama skills and performance techniques
  • Explore themes of leadership, kindness, and humility

‘Limitless’ Workshop/Project (Ages 14-25)

Hackney Shed and Hackney Empire are looking for performers aged 14-25 for our Summer Project “Limitless”. Focusing on young people with SEND and neuro-divergent young people, but open to anyone who is passionate about collaborating with others. Using music, theatre, dance and design we will create an original play to be performed at Hackney Empire.

Dates/Times: Tues 20 August – Fri 23 August (11am–5pm)

Date/time of Performance: Fri 23 August 4pm

Ages: 14-25 years fore-fronting the talents of neuro-divergent young people with those with SEND
